Biography

Alejandro Guzmán is currently associated as an Associate Professor at the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University assigned to the Graphic Design program since 2013. Candidate for a PhD in Design and Creation, with the aspiration to complete in 2019, Master in Design and Interactive Creation of the University of Caldas in the year 2012 (Meritorious thesis), Specialist in video and digital technologies off-line and on-line in agreement with MECAD University of Caldas UNESCO in the year 2007, Visual Designer of the University of Caldas in 1999 and Professional Producer in 3D Animation of the Image Campus of Buenos Aires in the year 2011. He has worked as a professional designer for different companies nationally and internationally in the divisions of creation, web design, multimedia, 2D and 3D illustration, 3D animation and programming (Cekit, La Victoria Bakery, CineClub Borges Corporation, Synergos, Parquesoft Pereira, Agencia of models Liliana Arango, NUT Studios), likewise she has been a teacher of various educational institutions of higher education at the undergraduate and Masters levels (Autonomous University of Manizales, University of Caldas, University Foundation of the Andean Area - Pereira Section, University of La Sabana) and has been a member of educational computing development teams (CIEDU - Universidad Católica of Manizales, UamVirtual - Autonomous University of Manizales). He has published articles on augmented reality, video games and animated development processes in journals such as Memorias (Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia), ZONA (University Foundation of the Andean Area - Pereira Section), Cuadernos de Cine de Colombia (Cinemateca Distrital IDARTES Bogotá), Iconofacto ( UPB) and the magazine Art, Individual and Society (Universidad Complutense de Madrid). Illustrator, rigger, animator and researcher with presentations at national and international events. He was the winner of the second place in the Interactive Documents category of the I National Competition of Virtual Learning Objects of the Ministry of National Education of Colombia in 2005, winner of the first place in the Animated Audiovisual category of the second call for stimuli from the Secretariat of Culture of the Mayoralty of Pereira in 2013 and Winner of the Scholarship Film and Audiovisual Research of the Ministry of Culture of Colombia in 2014 with SemillaLab research semicircle of the UJTL. Seed Coordinator SemillaLab - Digital content laboratory and the seedling Movement Design. At the moment it is academic pair of the National Committee of Accreditation (CNA) of the Ministry of National Education of Colombia, director of animation and evaluator of projects, scientific texts and research products in different universities of the country. He is a member and leader of the research group Estudios de la Imagen (Category B of Colciencias - Jorge Tadeo Lozano University) since 2015, and is a member of Iconos & Bastones (Category C of Colciencias - Cooperative University of Colombia) since 2007, is currently categorized as an Associate Researcher at Colciencias. Alejandro was drawn to a career in art, design ,and technology out of a passion that he has for these fields. By creating new compositions and illustrations with interactive features, Alejandro is helping to raise much needed awareness about visual arts in Colombia. For the past 20 years, Alejandro has had great visions for his chosen field, many of which he has been able to bring to fruition. In three to five years, Alejandro hopes to complete his doctoral studies at the University of Caldas. Moreover, Alejandro hopes to create two short films in animation. Creating designs and programming for TV outlets is also something that Alejandro is interested in doing. Additionally, Alejandro hopes to travel to places like the US or countries in Europe to present his short films. Key to Alejandro's professional success has been his passion for his field. Such passion and dedication to visual arts has prompted Alejandro to seek to be the first to introduce undergraduate programs in animation to universities located in the larger Latin American region. Achieving an equilibrium between the technical and knowledge area of his field has also been a key factor in Alejandro's success. In his spare time, Alejandro enjoys watching films and animations. As a member of the International Alumni Association, Alejandro is looking to network with like-minded individuals who can aid him in his larger aim of helping the arts to flourish in Colombia. He hopes to achieve this goal by both creating workshops and also giving talks about animation and production.
