Biography

Joan Thomas Edwards is well know lawyer, diplomat, writer, and human rights activist. Joan serves as Director, International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Jamaica, and has nearly three decades of experience in government relations. In 2015, she was awarded the Long Service Award, Jamaica Civil Service for 26 years of service. She has advised and participated in many political administrative affairs in Jamaica, Pretoria Africa and the United Kingdom. She serves as Head of Chancery for the Deputy High Commissioner of Jamaica and is former Acting High Commissioner, 2006 to 2009. Joan was named among the top 100 CSC Leaders within the UK. An expert in program management and international relations, she has worked closed with the United Nations in efforts to help her country and culture. She has been an active member of the National Task Force Against Trafficking in Persons, Jamaica, since 2012. Furthermore, she is a member of the Jamaica Foreign Service Association and Lawyers Christian Fellowship. She has an extensive academic career, which includes a Master’s degree in Public Administration from American University, class of 1996.
