Biography

Moy Fong Chen is a successful pathologist and educator with over 45 years of experience in healthcare and education. Since 1979, she has been a staff pathologist at McGill University Health Centre and is also an Associate Professor in both the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Department of Pathology, where she teaches medical students and residents in both pathology and Perinatal Pathology. Dr. Chen graduated with an MB BS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) from Monash University in Melbourne Australia in 1968. And later sub-specialized in Pediatrics in Vancouver, Canada and Pediatric pathology at Boston Children’s Hospital and Adult Pathology at the Mallory Institute of Pathology in Boston. Initially, she was drawn to complete tertiary education in Melbourne, Australia and later had the opportunity to study medicine at Monash University in Melbourne. Originally, Moy Fong was inspired to get involved in healthcare, as she was looking for a profession that would make it easy for her to find a job anywhere in the world. She was born in China, lived in Indonesia, studied in Australia, and has been living in Canada for a long time now. Indeed, Moy Fong has always been intrigued by international experiences and speaks fluent Chinese, Mandarin, English, French, and Indonesian. She is a member of the Society of Pediatric Pathology and a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and The Canadian Medical Association. Her area of expertise is perinatal pathology. Going forward, Moy Fong wants to continue to pass on her knowledge to the younger generation. She is keen to network, do some consulting, and keep up with teaching and mentoring in her specialty. In addition, she thinks it's important to know other specialists and professionals in her field in developing countries, so she can share ideas and her expertise with them, as well. The key to her success is hard work and an interest in her subject specialty. Moy Fong really loves teaching the younger generation and feels that they have a very good system at McGill University. Throughout her career, she has presented papers and has over 64 publications. She has done extensive public speaking, including speeches and lectures on her specialty. When she's not working, Moy Fong enjoys travel, music and reading. Moy Fong hopes to take advantage of all of the benefits that come along with being a member of the International Alumni.
